What is

The SA STEAM Inter-School Competition 2025 is a platform for grade 5-12 students across Indonesia to enhance their problem-solving skills and tackle real-world challenges.

Participants will apply their STEAM knowledge to develop innovative solutions that make a meaningful impact, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and environmental responsibility.

STEAM is an interdisciplinary approach that fosters holistic thinking by integrating science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. Through this competition, students will not only strengthen their critical and creative thinking skills but also explore solutions for pressing global issues—particularly those related to sustainability and the green ecosystem. By combining innovation, technology, and environmental consciousness, these young minds will pave the way for a more sustainable future.

Competition Mechanism

  • Theme: Sustainability, with category Science & Engineering
  • The competition is for all students Grades 5-12 in Indonesia.
  • Both individuals and groups with a maximum of 4 members can join the competition.
  • The participants must register their STEAM project in the appropriate category. The two categories are Science and Engineering.
    • Science is the body of knowledge that explores the physical and natural world through a process of inquiry
    • Engineering is the application of knowledge to design, build and maintain a product that solves a problem and fulfills a need.
  • The competition is divided into two rounds: the preliminary round and final round.
  • Participants must submit:
    A. Powerpoint presentation
    • For Science Category it must include:
      • Project title
      • Question
      • Prediction
      • Planning
      • Investigation
      • Recording, Analysis and Interpretation
      • Connections and Reflections
      • Communication
    • For Engineering Category it must include:
      • Project title

      • Problem Identification

      • Exploration

      • Design

      • Creation of Prototype
      • Testing

      • Modifications and Re-testing

      • Communication

        Note all photos should be (at least 300 pixels)

    B. Project video

    • Maximum length: 5 minutes
    • Video languages: English or Bahasa Indonesia
    • Video content: same as presentation
    • Editing program to use: Vimeo Create, Shotcut, iMovie, Vita, etc.

    Video submission

    • The project video must be uploaded to any of the participants’ social media platforms, such as YouTube.
    • Sampoerna Academy must be tagged or mentioned.
    • Participants must use the hashtag #SASTEAM2025.
  • In the preliminary round, 10 best projects per category will be selected for the final round.
  • The selected finalists will be notified and asked to display their STEAM projects in the final round. The final exhibition will be held at Sampoerna Academy L’Avenue. Each project will be assessed by judges according to the competition criteria.
  • The 3 best STEAM projects will be chosen per level and win the prizes.

Who can join the competition ?

Participants are registered as students grade 5 to grade 12 in Indonesia.

Both individuals and groups with a maximum of 4 members.

Every school has the opportunity to submit multiple projects as many as possible for each level.

a. Primary School: Grade 5 – 6

b. Middle School: Grade 7 – 9

c. High School: Grade 10 – 12
